Sense and Sensibility (OP) User ID: 120892 Australia 09/02/2006 06:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can any of you ACs please tell me/us why you prefer to post anonymously rather than registering and choosing a suitable identifying avatar which would make debate on this forum far more cohesive. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 127212All you registered users have an image thingy to live up too You create a persona and become trapped into a mould, keeping strictly within the conventional boundaries of outrageousness and lunacy, thereby limiting yourselves.....lest you are denounced by the rest of the herd Being AC allows a much greater freedom of expression because we`re not tied to the accepted lunatic "norms" The only things that we who use a moniker or AV need to live up to are our beliefs and our philosophy and, contrary to the way you see things, this is in no way a "limitation" but rather an "ethical obligation" to stand by our views. What ACs have is the liberty to chop and change their stance depending on which way the wind is blowing. If you are so unsure of yourself, then by all means remain an AC. N.B. I'm not suggesting that you all do this but I'm sure that many ACs do. "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root" - Henry D. Thoreau |

Fearless User ID: 138548 United States 09/02/2006 06:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Heh. Point taken S&S. I don't roll that way. Heck I been tracking this site for months and posted for the first time about 20 mins ago. This site is fertile ground for flip floppers, whackos, woo woos, and lunatics. Better they stay anonymous most the time anyways eh? There's still room for the regulars to commune here. The difference between AC's and members shouldn't matter that much, should it? You're going to stick with your opinions anyway... |

From your very first sentence you ally yourself to a club mentality....a "we" etc....speak solely as an individual and as you`ve said the limitation is placed by ethical obligation to adhere to a percieved image let`s take your pic....very pretty and an image of "respectability".....and therein lies the problem ...it is just an "image" and nothing akin to the truth....people will identify and ally themselves with you purely because of this Unsure ? not at all, just an unwillingness to be bracketed most importantly it`s just a website forum where anything can be said by anyone at any time, regardless of truth and not to be taken too seriously |

Sense and Sensibility (OP) User ID: 120892 Australia 09/02/2006 06:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | but when I see your Av I know exactly where you (as a "cyber-person") stand on most issues and therein lies the difference. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 127212Exactly ! The image thing to live up too and what if you happen to disagree with what is said ? or take an immediate dislike to an avatar ? It's not the image that you have to live up to, it's your thoughts, your philosophy etc. etc . And if you disagree with what is being said, then have the guts to stand up and say so. If you're so shallow as to take and immediate disliking of an AV then I give up because no matter what I say, it'll make no sense to you. (Sorry, no offence meant, but that last question of yours doesn't deserve an answer.) "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root" - Henry D. Thoreau |

I think you`ve said what really needs to be said in relation to the mindset and mentality of the likes of yourself when you react so vehemently and give yourself an air of aloofness SOLELY for the benefit of other with avatars so you`re seen to be taking a stance on club membership .....you`re hiding behind something that is UNREAL....you`re playing games You are in effect upholding an aparteid with regard to AC you`re in reality an ugly fucker of no consequence who attempts to make himself a life albeit in cyber world as life in the real world is jus` too damn painful fo` ya` |

ObeyTheOctopus User ID: 103587 United States 09/02/2006 06:55 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Online as in real life, it's the same. Once you create an identity you are catagorized by others by the identity you present. If you happen to stray from your preconcieved identity, then you are thought to be "out of your mind", and are held accountable for your digression. I don't self-censor myself to fit an "identity" cause frankly I don't give a fuck what people think, or what they think I should be. My thought patterns change everyday, and I believe that "identity" or the self is something fluid and not set in stone. I understand that not everybody recognizes this, but I think it's true for everyone. Perhaps anynomity provides some sort of freedom for some people to express thoughts that are not bound to the chains of "identity". There is a definite heirarchy at work here as there is anywhere, but we need everybody's input, that's what so great about the internet and our right to free speech. I will defend OP's questions, not because she? is registered but because I don't think she? was trying to be derisive of AC's. Just my two cents. "Buy the ticket, take the ride." |
