Found this: "Tishrei is the first month of the Jewish civil year, but the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year. " So it's the beginning of the jewish civil year? I thought Israel was very close to a theocracy, and there was very little separation between the ecclesiastical and civil life. Where in torah do the Jews justify having a civil year? And what purpose would that serve when they are supposedly given a divine calendar from God? |
