Booger Cancer User ID: 70513382 United States 10/28/2015 07:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not for one blimp - for the entire program. Ech blimp costs $175 Million. They look beyond huge when you notice the person standing next to one. They are designed to give 360 degree aerial coverage to provide advanced notice of a nuclear missile attack. Being able to knock down nuclear missiles would be a worthwhile project. It does seem odd that one could just "get away." That's a serious problem. Sounds like something John McCain would do. Yes, I did cure my Stage 4 cancer in two weeks when I was 48. I also reversed my chronic kidney disease (glomerulonephritis) when I was 25. In neither case were any medical treatments involved. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 70008973 United States 10/28/2015 07:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok i'm in the ARMY let me explain what this thing does. IF you are on FOB ( forward Operating Base ). We have these "blimps" positioned around the FOB to look out around the base to spot any threats or if anyone is digging in the roads out and around the base planting IEDS. They also look in on the base to spot threats. They are called Ptds. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70008973 ever heard of OPSEC? idiot You can google any of the information ... and yes i know what OPSEC is .... Here you go RIGHT off of lockheedmartins web site [link to www.lockheedmartin.com] Lockheed Martin’s Persistent Threat Detection System (PTDS) serves as eyes in the sky for Coalition forces in Afghanistan. And according to several recently published reports, the aerostat-based surveillance system is seeing quite a lot. Acting on PTDS information, soldiers at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Andar worked with the Afghan police to thwart a group of insurgents attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) in early January. Using the PTDS’ camera system, American forces also recently observed an Afghan Uniformed Police officer extorting money from civilians at an illegal checkpoint on the route between Ghazni and Sharana. The soldiers detained the man and turned him over to the National Directorate of Security. |

Satellites are supposed to carry digital traffic, also... but we spend 100's of millions of dollars laying undersea cables that supposedly carry 95% of the world's internet traffic... seems odd. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 67046660 United States 10/28/2015 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey, idiots.... The BLIMP does not cost $2.7 billion. That is the budget of the entire program. And under this entire program, these AEROSTATS are used on the U.S.-Mexico border, down in the Caribbean, in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere. This budget also covers pricey R&D. Get your facts straight. |
