RIP Richard Hatch : 'Battlestar Galactica' Star Dead at 71
[link to www.hollywoodreporter.com]

2/7/17

snip:

" The actor received a Golden Globe nomination in 1979 for playing Captain Apollo on the sci-fi series.

Richard Hatch, the Golden Globe nominee who starred on both the original Battlestar Galactica TV series as well as the mid-2000s reboot, died Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 71.

"Richard Hatch was a good man, a gracious man, and a consummate professional. His passing is a heavy blow to the entire BSG family," tweeted Ronald D. Moore, creator of the Battlestar Galactica reboot.

Hatch had been battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Alec Peters, the writer/producer behind the Star Trek fan film Axanar, wrote on Facebook. Hatch had acted in and was a supporter of the project, playing a Klingong in Prelude to Axanar.

"Richard was in good spirits when I visited him 2 weeks ago. He knew his time was short, but was comforted by the fact that his son would be taken care of," wrote Peters."

Hatch also played Philip Brent, who was drafted into the Vietnam War, in the original cast of the ABC daytime soap opera All My Children. Other credits included episodes of Hawaii Five-O (1973-75) and The Waltons (1975-75)."

Re: RIP Richard Hatch : 'Battlestar Galactica' Star Dead at 71
I have to post the tribute to my dear friend. But anyone that knew him for even a little while would say that, too.

There was no one that wasn't his friend and if you didn't think you were he would have eventually made you warm up to him with a joke or two or listening ear... his being one of the finest in the business.

Richard's ability to truly listen to you ... really listen ...was what made him a consummate actor... passionate teacher and
adorable friend.

Would he mind me posting here? No, not at all especially if it was in the name of Truth or making even one person smile.
We would talk about this kind of stuff occasionally... he was a chief researcher... although his focus for his work was intense and sometimes all-consuming.
But that's what made him great.

When I first came to the City of Angels chasing dreams, I fell quickly into Richard's baseball team in Beverly Glen. Interesting people would pop in and out of the team and of the game including his son whom he adored but it was his team spirit and coaching that kept it going.

He lived more as a citizen of the universe than just a native Californian. There was always a part of him in the spirit... one foot in this world and one foot in the other That's where we connected very much as well.

I will miss his remarkable blue eyes, his gigantic soul so full of unending hope... and his very generous hugs.

Yeah, not much can be done other than the Whipple procedure, which is a difficult surgical intervention. Pancreatic cancer doesn't respond well to chemo or radiation. It's one of rarest and worst forms of cancer.

Of course, I have seen a couple of patients respond well to the Whip, and live for very long periods following initial diagnosis.

Such a nice guy/character, but Starbuck was far more entertaining.

The opening sequence was a masterpiece in itself, as was the whole premise of the show.

Boxey and his robot dog were the cutest pair of characters ever.

he invested much in a John Denver biopic movie which never
came to pass (another great soul and have always wondered about that plane crash w JD)
and was working on a video game (one of my relatives pitched him some VR ideas for it). A renaissance man.

He was so beautiful. Stunning eyes. Loved that show.

He and Tom Wellings from Smallville are two of the most beautiful men.

May he rest in peace and fly free. Reach the higher mind plain and be with his Loved ones forever.
