NBC - Most Millennials Are Finding It Hard to Transition Into Adulthood (ROFL)
"It became too difficult financially to be in school and not working," says Kaylor, who dropped out of Lincoln
Christian University, in Illinois, after one semester because of a money crunch. "And without schooling, you
can't get a job that you can survive on, so I had to move back home," he said.

[ ROFL. Generation Wuss can't handle the pressures of life.... The same pressures that ALL
of their forefathers managed to tackle, and then some. The greatest country, with the greatest
opportunities, and these humps can get their shit together. ]

times are changing tho. when my grand parents were young and you had a high school degree you were sort of a king and a very smart person. Today if you don't have a master degree in Belgium people will look funny at you and think you are stupid.

Because you identify as a Republican, there does exist a morsel of feeling for your situation, but in
general, this disease (inability) is a function of grit, creative problem-solving skills, and drive.

There are jobs galore all over this country.

Excuses are also plentiful.

Hmmm.

My parents did not contribute a red cent to my higher ed.

And they warned me of this while still in high school.

So I worked multiple jobs, applied for grants, etc..

It took a couple extra years, but so what?

My parents knew I would be far more effective in my studies if
I was doing it on my own dime.

Less partying, only courses that mattered, etc...

It was the best thing they did for me... snipping that umbilical.

You can thank the Boomers for tarnishing our economy in order to fatten their 401Ks and pay for their expensive materalistic lifestyles.

In 1978, it cost $1800 a year to attend College. $1800!

This !!!!

The Federal Government is providing grant money and student loans so the colleges know its a blank check and they are making bank.

Kids are leaving school in debt to the government for BIG money.

You should care because these young adult are not having children to perpetuate our future.

This is a REAL American problem created by a well meaning Federal Government.

Re: NBC - Most Millennials Are Finding It Hard to Transition Into Adulthood (ROFL)
College is expensive now because that's what the market will bear. The market is that way because of "easy" student loans and because employers now will not hire for any position that requires a High School education, without a college degree. The reason employers are hiring college graduates for HS diploma positions is because HS, which used to be an actual institution of education (general knowledge, career skills, and intro to higher learning) has degenerated to basically a 4-6 year baby-sitting service for 2 income families. This is partly due to "pass them along" "no student too dumb to fail" policies.

Make HS actually teach something, require students to get passing scores to earn passing grades, refuse to promote failure... make employers justify the need for an applicant to have a college degree. Get rid of the H1B infiltrators that are saturating the job market... employers will be more inclined to hire bright and talented people (college degree or not) who prove they can do the work... or will actually take untrained people and train them, thus creating their own "labor force".

It's all the product of bad decisions made by those who couldn't forsee the consequences who thought they were being nice, or fostering self-esteem, or saving a buck (short-term) without seeing the cost long-term. The BB generation shares some blame but Gen-X is as bad or worse. Bad decisions, not necessarily out of selfishness or callousness, but more out of inattention and failure to think things through, and instead opting for "right in front of your face" low hanging fruit. It's something every generation is guilty of, it's human nature to go for the easy answer. But we need to do better. More and more, I'm concerned that the whole concept of democracy may be flawed, because an idea getting more votes, doesn't assure that it is the right idea. It just meant it was more "popular" on the day the vote was taken.
