Microsoft issues ‘highly unusual’ Windows XP patch to prevent massive ransomware attack

Lots of corporations will not upgrade XP. The main reason why is because nearly all major business, finance, and corporate software was written in VB6 (Visual Basic 6). Its considered the best, safest and fastest, and simplest programming language (even today).

Windows XP was the last operating system that could successfully run programs made with VB6 without issues.

So companies dont want to fix what isnt broken.

Clearly, based on the malware outbreak, you can now see how many MAJOR companies are still on Windows XP.

That was interesting to see....damage caused aside.

It adds up. Windows 10 is the most Orwellian PC OS in existence. Windows XP is on the opposite end of comparison, of which Microsoft loathes people using.

After 2 years of stopping updates people still won't let loose of XP, so along comes the 'most widespread' 'greatest in history' 'world war infection' that targets XP users.

Coincidence?

They had a fix ready to go and chose not to offer it -- presumably because that would encourage people not to upgrade.

They're culpable in all this mess.

Which they should have done in the first place.

Reality is, unless a company is forced to make updates to application, they will not add the cost overhead to do it.
Financial services, being some pretty cheap bastards, will not recode ATMs to another platform until the house of cards truly falls.

If anyone thought at first there was no conspiracy against WinXP PC's still running...ones that Microsoft/NSA can't get into easily.
...that patch file size tells you all you need to know.

IF you are using Windows XP as an operating system your a fool for doing it.
There are NO security patches available for your protection and your machine is becoming a Hackers paradise.

If you are running it then get the current PATCH and for gosh sakes move on to another operating system

netsh firewall set portopening protocol = all port = 445 mode = disable profile = all

Check state with
netsh firewall show state

No ports should be open but the regular exceptions you added via the GUI.

I wouldnt guess so because of the compartmentalized not root state of the default standing filesystem.

The military still uses XP and pays Microsoft millions a year for updates but the public gets none. Wanting them to upgrade to 10...

XP is quick and lean, not bloated with an over complicated nanny interface that is every subsequent version.

Ports are closed and 3rd party protections updated. I'll use XP until flash stops supporting, with my middle finger pointed at Windows 10 - the most intrusive, data logging, slave submitting operating system known to man.

I've seen threads where idiots here bragged about disabling Windows update cause they think somehow that will keep Microsoft from spying on them. Only thing their dumbasses are doing is making their computers vulnerable to attack.

I was hacked on my Win 10 pc & it's now in the shop being stripped down & reformatted. The hackers wanted $182USD & I refused to pay it & disconnected my pc from the modum. They did say that if I did not pay it, my files would be deleted in 7days. I just listened to a vid with Paul Begley where he is talking about this & he also said the hackers talked about the 7 day window to their other victims.
