That time period is the Miocene, in which many mammals existed. Last Edited by MarPep on 09/01/2017 02:56 PM _______________ They let me off with a warning and a couple of bullet holes. |

That’s key because, as far as the fossil record has told us so far, hominins evolved in Africa. A small group of researchers have argued it’s possible that our lineage evolved in Europe, but they’ve had scant evidence to back them up. " [link to blogs.discovermagazine.com] Ostria |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 75506243 Romania 09/09/2017 03:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The footprints from Crete are 2 million years older than the ones from Laetoli, which are side by side with dinosaurs footprints! Studies in recent decades have led to the conclusion that all fossil human-ancestors older than 1.8 million years lived and evolved in Africa. And, as a set of ‘reasonably complete’ 4.4 million-year-old Ardipithecus ramidus fossils discovered in Ethiopia was found to have an ape-like foot, it was thought that the human-like foot had not yet evolved by that time. Several other fossil discoveries in South and East Africa have further supported the idea that the evolution of human bipedalism took place on the continent, including the 3.7 million-year-old Laetoli footprints from Tanzania, which provide evidence of human-like feet and upright locomotion. Knapped from a cobble of local quartz stone, the rough-looking tool resembled hand axes discovered in Africa and mainland Europe and used by human ancestors until about 175,000 years ago. "I was flabbergasted," said Boston University archaeologist and stone-tool expert Curtis Runnels. "The idea of finding tools from this very early time period on Crete was about as believable as finding an iPod in King Tut's tomb. [link to news.nationalgeographic.com] |
