If you changed the map in any way shape or form, from what you see on the globe, you would skew it thus you'd fuck up navigation.

For example the UN map is stretched out so bad near the south pole that where say 1 inch=300 miles on a northern 45 degree hemisphere latereral line, you have to change the southern stretched hemisphere 45th degree lateral line to 1 inch=1,000 miles or something like that. But, no, if I look at a globe, I know I could drive 1 inch on the globe on the 45th lateral line of EITHER the Northern or Southern hemisphere and drive 300 miles in real life.
