Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76024099 You are not just "normal" like a man would be but have to be called "independent" because you don't rely on a man (e.g., daddy or hubby). Right, you see the redundancy of the phrase then... It's over affirmation, right? |

No. It's a way to label women who don't fall into the "married" or "living with parents" category because that was traditionally out of the norm for women. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 75716984 United States 12/23/2017 04:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A short quest to discover why some women claim they are "independent women" and what this really is saying about them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 52497637 You might have heard this phrase often from women, especially in dating circles. What is the woman trying to tell you by stating she is independent? and what does it mean to any future possible relationships. To figure it out, let's try this. Consider the phrase "independent man" and ask yourself why don't you hear that often or at all? It's not a 'feature' you see men advertising themselves as. So why do some, maybe most, women do this? What does the phrase "independent women" change in description of a person compared to just "woman". Some men do advertise it with a certain five letter acronym that starts with m and ends with w. |
