I am the complete opposite of that and I am a fan of art. I used to think exactly the same as you. As I got older I realized that legacy was important as well as a record of history. I am not talking about bs junk art, I am talking about movements and individual talent, which there is some of still.

For certain types however, there should be zero funding. namely shit that is not commercially viable and never will be. Sink or swim....fast.

My opinion is (an artist in oils for most of my life) that the art today does not refect the zeitgeist of the time, rather, it works to create a dystopic world view. It has become weaponized. This began with the "movements" of the 19th centurty, which shifted the tradition of depicting the human form and landscapes from a pro human bias to debasing the human condition.

Much has been written about it. Paul Joseph Watson has some great commentaries about the ugliness being touted in art to control people's perceptions.

Edit to add: Most of what we think of as organic, grassroots movements, were in fact, carefully orchestrated activities by subversive elements.
