Maybe this will trigger some memories about ANOTHER memorable stock dump...

"Sources tell CBS News that the afternoon before the [9/11] attack, alarm bells were sounding over unusual trading in the U.S. stock options market.

An extraordinary number of trades were betting that American Airlines stock price would fall.

The trades are called "puts" and they involved at least 450,000 shares of American. But what raised the red flag is more than 80 percent of the orders were "puts", far outnumbering "call" options, those betting the stock would rise."

It's involved.
Steel and aluminum are imported at various levels of readiness for processing, from ore to recycled pure metal.

China, for example, could buy our "junk" steel, ship it to China, processes, and sell it back to us cheaper than we could process it locally, basically because of Chinese slave labor and "currency manipulation".

This will cease now.

Yeah man, sorry, it's really involved and if I went into it in detail, you'd be bored and I'd fall asleep.

Basically it's impossible for a free Capitalist nation to trade with a communist dictatorship on equal terms, because the dictatorship enjoys a massive advantage in labor cost.

I will be happy when tariffs are enacted.
Products will be made here and bring jobs back to the US. Things will cost more, because the people who produce them will not be slaves in other countries.

Steel "dumping" at below cost started in the late 70s and hurt our domestic mills greatly.

Steel is critical for defense, it's not something we can afford to lose production of in our own country.

And foreign cheap steel is pretty crappy, with poorly controlled metallurgy, and has lots of gaseous inclusions that create failure points when rolled into products.

Japan had no raw materials to make steel.
So they bought lots and lots of our scrapped steel starting in the 1920s.

It all came back to us as the battleships, tanks, guns, etc of WW Two.

So "Steel" is now an international investment. That's bad.
There is no USS, "United States Steel" anymore.
It's Arcelor Mittal, a German company, owned by some people in India.

This would not have become a problem if we had supported our own workers HERE, instead of favoring cheap products and exploiting workers in other countries.

Correction is often a bit painful.
Let it come.

It's not a steel company it's a crane company. Many of these businesses sell most of their products to China like Boeing andDeer so when we put tariffs on them they'll liky stop buying heavy steel products like cranes and planes. Boeing had been hit on this news as well. Companies like Cliff, us steel and AKs even Nucor will do very well and those weren't what he dumped

well so now all the construction that's everywhere, their costs just went up 25%. steel for cars just went up 25%, that's a huge cost. it will create jobs in steel mills maybe after several years but construction jobs will be lost, auto industry jobs will be lost, airline's will lose shitload of money.

christ, how much shit is made with aluminum ? pretty much everything, half the products at the stores. price of everything is going to go up.

well you know, if an aluminum wheelchair is manufactured outside the country, it won't be subject to tariff because it's a finished product so now companies will move offshore to produce steel and aluminum products.

what a disaster.
