Why on earth do Canadians insist on saying "Aboot" instead of "About" (VIDEO) Funniest F vid i've seen in years.

Just finished watching the vid. So our Canadian friends don't say "Out" either, they say "Ooot".

Am I wrong or is there an extremely strong connection to the Scottish Dialect? In which case do they say "Moose" or "Mouse" or even "House" ?

It's beyond me.

But they do seem lovely folk.

I'm from the east coast and I don't pronounce it "aboot" I say about, and in my opinion as a Canadian I find the people who do have the accent sound more like they're saying "aboat" not "aboot"

Yes there is a connection. Canadians in the U.S who act and sing completely tone down the accent so you’d never know about it that much. However, most English Canadians do have Scottish influenced vowels.

I pronounce it ''a bout'' like the word ''bout'' in boxing.

Well I never knew that, I know their not a million miles away from Scotland but Iceland is in the way, I wonder how those buggers sound.

I just thought it was so funny seeing the chap in the vid get his knickers in a twist about it.

So what. With all the crazy American changes to the language this is refreshing.

Not being derogatory at all, of course there should be changes in dialect based on demographic differences, individuality is refreshing indeed!

Lol, I'm just glad to educated a little more, now I know there is a slight difference in dialect between the Americans & the Canadians I will be able to tell them apart! Which is a good thing!

Mind you, whom is carrying a bigger flag & who has higher level of education is normally a giveaway.

Yeah that guy from Mr. Max TV was claiming his accent wasn't Canadian, and that it was just a Northern accent. I find that hard to believe.

I worked in Canada for 2 years (Fort Mac). Canadians have dialects just like every other country. Not all say "aboot." As noted, the Scottish influence in Canada (and Newfoundland) is strong. My maternal grandfather said "aboot," but many Canadians sound like they came from the Midwest or Mid-Atlantic states to my ears. It's a bit like when British television thinks all Americans sound like Texans. Speaking of which I work in Texas a fair bit of the time and recognize they think my Midwestern accent sounds funny. It's all relative.
