I found a log book from a US Navy Submarine in a used bookstore
In this handwritten book was a list of gravimeter readings from all over various oceans

I didn't purchase the book but I spent a long time trying to figure out why this book existed

If it were the bridge log from the Naval vessel I served aboard you would have read my entry.

One day I arrived on the bridge to 'take the conn' and was rather late for my watch and duty station.

In hopefulness I asked the Captain if perchance the log entry could read that I assumed the watch 'on time'.

The Captain replied angrily: "In this log book we only write the truth!!"

The next day upon again 'assuming the conn' I made my first entry in the official US Naval Ship's log: "Assumed the conn at 18:00 hours; today the Captain was sober when I relieved him."

Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country,
don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy.

I did exactly as he directed--wrote only the truth in the log.

He apparently did not realize that via that single truthful entry his status and competency could be called into question.
