Why the heck do so many girls/women find nerdy men 'cute'?

I'm talking the pale, skinny guys with no facial hair, huge glasses, possible braces/other nerdy teeth problems, parted hair, bow ties..etc. Around 2008-ish people went from hating them to loving them, and I notice that women who like them seem pretty obsessive about it and if they have a DeviantART account half their gallery is drawings of nerdy guys in cartoons or anime, usually the same ones so I'm guessing from the same show. Why? What do women possibly see in this? A lot of them reply ''but he looks so cute and everything he does is cute!''...what? Whenever I see a nerd I want to smash his face in and crack his spine.

Did some cartoon show / anime come out in 2008-2010 that for whatever reason made young women wet for nerds or something?
