CNBC: Boom! US economy logs best performance in nearly 4 years.

U.S. economic growth was a bit stronger than initially thought in the second quarter, notching its best performance in nearly four years, as businesses boosted spending on software and imports declined.

Gross domestic product increased at a 4.2 percent annualized rate, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday in its second estimate of GDP growth for the April-June quarter. That was slightly up from the 4.1 percent pace of expansion it reported in July and was the fastest rate since the third quarter of 2014.

Businesses spent more on software than previously estimated in the second quarter and the nation also imported less petroleum. Stronger business spending and a smaller import bill offset a small downward revision to consumer spending.

Compared to the second quarter of 2017, the economy grew 2.9 percent instead of the previously reported 2.8 percent. Output expanded 3.2 percent in the first half of 2018, rather than 3.1 percent, putting the economy on track to hit the Trump administration's target of 3 percent annual growth.

But the robust growth in the second quarter is unlikely to be sustained given the one-off drivers such as a $1.5 trillion tax cut package, which provided a jolt to consumer spending after a lackluster first quarter, and a front-loading of soybean exports to China to beat retaliatory trade tariffs.

Our business has been absolutely booming this year. Our entire "slow season" was nearly as busy as the typical busy season and now that were heading into prime season we are getting absolutely slammed like never before. Even our manufacturer cannot keep up as they are behind on all of our orders telling us that they are getting avalanched by work orders.

This economy is running, maybe not ever industry is seeing it now or yet but its got legs. Hopefully we get a few years of this.

He actually did considering he lost bank money rather then his own money and was able to take the huge loss on the hotel/casino of money that was not his and put it towards tax deductions for decades.

He also has a majority ownership in 504 corporations so a handful of individual bankruptcy's is minuscule.

they'll just say it's due to obama.

the dow went down to around 6000 at the beginning of obama, up 8000 or so by the time he left, and up another 8000 in the first year of trump.

i don't care who you want to credit for it, let's just be happy it's doing well.

well when you own hundreds of companies some will fail. bankruptcy laws are there to protect investors from losing everything.

how many businesses have you owned and successfully made again?

same here. i won't repeat it cause i've said it so many times on here, but the business i work for had our best year in their 70+ year history last year, and on track to completely soar past that number this year.

biggest raises have been given in over a decade, a post-tax cut bonus for every employee... things are pretty damn good i gotta say.

Re: CNBC: Boom! US economy logs best performance in nearly 4 years.
Yup, even the summer beach rentals were way up. We had numerous inquires this summer from realtors about people wanting to rent our house for $3500 a week. We stopped renting this one since we live in it now but normally we'd be happy to get $2500 a week for about 12 weeks in the summer. Went on the realtors board and there were just about zero open rentals besides a few dingy rotten shacks that should be condemned. Normally there would be lots of competition in pricing but even the dingy moldy 600 sq ft shacks were renting for $1200-$1800 a week.... got out of the summer beach rental game too earlier I guess :\

I'm not sure they ever said the GDP numbers were fake, especially as Obama had five quarters of negative growth.

Wrong retard. The man started out with 1 million dollars and turned it into Billions.

By any standard besides the libtard standard that would be classified as a win.

In nearly 4 years. Which means it was just as good, if not better, under Obama's leadership.

Q1 -1%
Q2 5.1%
