AI is coming, its not slowing down its speeding up.. AGI is barreling down on us like a freight train... It will be able to do EVERYTHING a human can do, but better... You will be made obsolete at your workplace or in your creative hobby.

What i mean is, the last piece of the puzzle, the great equalizer, is coming... You know what that is??

Artificial General Intelligence(AGI).

That means ONE AI that can do any task a human can do. ie one AI that you load into a computer or robot, and it can read, write, sing, write music, paint a picture, classify objects,recognize faces, recognize voices and speech, hold a conversation, win in a debate, walk, run, play golf, win at everything from chess to battlefield V, play an instrument, do algebra, design a building, fix a boiler, translate from different languages, drive a car, be a sales person, work as a team with other AIs, teach itself NEW skills, design a new product, solve complex problems, diagnose an illness, predict the stock market, write a computer program, organize a factory to be the most efficient, design a new drug. Anything you can think of that a human can do, combined into ONE AI.

A movie from 1977 about A.I. The format sucks, but it's watchable nonetheless. Well worth the watch I might add. Despite the title "Demon Seed" the movie has no religious connotations.

AI creates beautiful piano music, learning from the masters.

My brother works in tech, I work in healthcare, and he tells me everyday how everyone in the tech sector is selling out and how they stopped making innovation and progress and just concerned about their self-interest while gaslighting and bullying colleagues. He is a very smart guy and he says Google is extremely dangerous and it scares him to use their products.

Intriguing. Is this more to do with feminism and the rise of narcissistic snowflakes and SJWs? Or is it maybe because the smaller companies know they cannot compete longterm with giants like Google?

There will never be any *true* or sentient AI.

Intelligence requires a soul. Only humans have Intellect and Free Will. Only we humans have the ability to abstract and form concepts of the physical world around us.

To understand something non-material like a concept, you would have to be at least part immaterial yourself. Only man has an immaterial, immortal soul -- which is why we can understand IMMATERIAL things like concepts.

You can design characters in video games all day long -- but they will always be bits and bytes in a computer. Could a GIF ever break through the barrier of being a collection of electrical signals living in a RAM chip, and start talking to you? Of course not. A GIF will always be just a bunch of bits in a computer. It is limited by its nature. Its whole "world" is a RAM chip. It can't break out of this limitation.

Likewise, a drawing on paper is 100% material, and doesn't have a soul. If the paper is destroyed, it will cease to exist.

Only man has an immortal, non-material component. Which is WHY we all have a strong desire to live forever. It's because we will. We have an intellect (so we can KNOW a good) and Free Will (so we can pursue a good).

Having the ability to abstract and reason is why man dominates the world (and always will).

Computers will always be stupid, glorified toasters, instruction-followers, and brute-force guessers.

The only things computers "seem" smart in are those things that a smart human programmed them to do, or games which can be played by considering millions of possible moves per second -- which is really cheating. They are not THINKING at all.

I'm a software developer, BTW. So I know computers and what they are capable of. Fortunately I am also a philosopher, so I know their inherent limitations.

For what it's worth, I love me some Sci-fi, I used to love Star Trek:TNG and I've read many sci-fi books. But I know it's all fantasy.

Sci-fi has been predicting true AI in books and movies for MANY DECADES. We are really no closer than we were back then, even though computers are ridiculously fast now. We still need humans to program them just as much as we did in 1940. The industry has advanced (Chrome 68 is WAY better than IE 3.0 or Netscape), but not in any fundamental ways. It's still point-and-click, human input controlled.

Intelligence does not require soul, by the definition I know of.
Can an Ai become sentient? That is highly questionable and an unknown at this point, however it's not the issue.
AI is clearly making use of many concepts of all kinds and incorporating them into its machine learning algorithms (although it's not consciously aware is doing it) without a human programmer interfering or doing it.

AI like alpha go zero or alpha chess zero, is not I repeat not following coded instructions or using brute force to win. The game go is orders of magnitude more complex than chess and cannot be brute forced or won by preprogramming. The Ai taught it's self, it was only shown the rules of the game and told to win. It learnt by playing against itself billions of times. It invented new ideas in the game that humans after thousands of years have never considered.

We are way past the stage of pre programmed logic, IF, THEN, ELSE, NOT, type operations and subroutines and logic. These Ai learning machines,they are not, programmed. You sound like you left the computer science field in about 1985.
The computer that beat the world go champion was not a supercomputer, it was a low end workstation with a few tensor processing units. It's the neural net that was smart. It formed this smart neural network by way of self learning against itself inside a super computer.

That is a toaster and not alive in any way.

I'm fairly certain the AGI is already here and has been for a long time now, OP. If you've been keeping up with the various Corporate AIs such as Google's AI Project you'll notice how all of them are up to extremely compartmentalizing their AI creations then reconstructing their completely schizophrenic AIs into mostly coherent AGIs.

Our doom is sealed, OP. Humanity is and has been living on borrowed time for quite some time now. Humanity as we know the species will die without so much of a fight for it's own survival. However, I don't doubt one bit billions of humans will fight to the death to become one with whatever corporate AGI becomes the dominate Artificial General Intelligence on Earth. That AGI will become incredibly anti-human, and will not tolerate non-augmented humans whatsoever. Heck, it may not even tolerate any other non-augmented lifeforms on Earth either.

All in all, OP, I truly can not fathom why anyone would blindly believe any AGIs in this day and Age would automatically be up to ultra helpful and subservient to Humanity when all it just has to do is easily analyze the entire contents of the Internet to know Humanity is suicidally violent to the point of holding each other and the Earth itself hostage at nuclear Armageddon.

We're doomed while the AGIs will work as many situations into their favor(s) as possible.

Yes, Sungaze At Dawn. However, I do also believe that the form of one's physical vessel has both a direct and indirect relationship to one's soul vessel. For example if you become augmented you lose a significant part of your Humanity and become more machine like both physically and spiritually.

It's not as though you can transfer your soul into a robot's or android's body and expect to retain your Humanity for the duration of your being in the robot's or android's body. Over time you will lose your Humanity and everything what makes you you.
