Analog Telephone Conversations
When's the last time you had a phone convo over two landlines?

You can hear everything, talk simultaneously and laugh together without a bunch of noise-cancelling digital bullshit getting in the way.

Talking mobile to mobile is like a corporate conference call. Awkward, forced and unpleasant. Heaven forbid you both try to speak at the same time.

Humanity always chooses convenience over quality, and it never fails to irritate me.

I'm sure that's true at the switch level, but there's no software attempting to manipulating the call in realtime, let's say.

I've got but one relative who's got a landline, and when we talk, it's just a really noticeable difference.

I used to have one about 30 years ago, had a 10' cord that would go outside. Now days I resort to speaker phone.

I agree. My cell phone and cordless home phone constantly drops calls. It's so annoying. Back in the day with an old landline phone, never dropped phone calls - maybe during a really bad storm but can't even recall dropping a call then either.

Television sucks too, screen freezes, pixelated, digital bs like that. All those channels and it's mostly leftist programming anyway.

Internet is great although "they" are working hard to make that suck too.

Reminds me of stretching the cord to get out of parental earshot so you could talk to your middle school crush.

My TV is pretty weak; I'm stuck with satellite & there's a new tree in it's way annually.

However, have you seen a VHS lately? It's such a stark contrast to HD/4k.

I do think TV is better, although they got us to pay for what was once free and we're still inundated with advertisements.

You're right, TV screen quality is so much better - ha can't imagine watching VHS.

Yes, cable tv is expensive even without the movie channels.

I can't remember the last time.

I prefer conversations over the internet, it feels cozy enough and landline like to me. Plus I can just hang up and nobody knows or get's offended if I don't answer for days.

internet forum conversations are the best, all at my convenience and not when someone comes calling.

Re: Analog Telephone Conversations
My landline died the morning after Hurricane Katrina, when the flood water rose. It was over a year later that the landlines had been repaired and service restored. By then, I had been converted to using a cell phone, dragged kicking and screaming into the modern society because of a storm.

I know, it's all pretty damn easy, if a bit impersonal.

The phone used to be the 'cop-out', as opposed to in person interaction (imagine asking someone on a date), and now the internet or texting is the 'cop-out' for the actual phone conversation.

We're just moving towards less actual interaction.

People sometimes act genuinely surprised to have a stranger talk to them in a store, etc.

What used to be friendly now creeps some people out.

I might go so far as to say it might be the biggest social shift since modern transportation widened everyone's circle by a thousand-fold

hmm
