From an ideology standpoint I hate compromise. From a realistic standpoint compromise is a massive win for republicans because democrats have not nor ever compromised on any issue. Democrats have gotten every single thing they have wanted in my whole life time. When they lose in Congress they run to the Supreme Court.


So a compromise is automatically bad for democrats and gives republicans something they would not have gotten anyway.


Of course now that the courts are swinging back to conservative judges, we won’t have to compromise for much longer.

I have and will continue to support POTUS! The alternative is a non-starter for me. He appears to be trying to do the right thing the right way.

But...if you're suggesting we should all agree with one person all the time BLINDLY, that's probably not in the nature of most people on GLP?

Some people that support POTUS are understandably frustrated, as he could have made this same agreement (3 weeks then xxx), back in Dec before the shutdown which now appears to have accomplished didly. Of course hindsite is 20/20. I'm certain, if he knew the shutdown wasn't going to work, he wouldn't have done it.

The only ones I see suggesting that are the ones trying to rationalize telling us they're done with Trump every other day then saying they're supporters the next.

With friends like that we don't need liberal enemies. We have enough in our own ranks. If they like or not they're just more never trumpers in action. They do the same damage.

I can't say i'm "done" with Trump because that means "joining" the Democrats.

Nobody in their right mind would do that if they wanted a wall, or wanted Trump to succeed, as I have and still do.

Having said that, I have reached a new point of view on the Trump presidency today. Here it is: (you won't like this)

President Trump is and always has been genuine in his love for America and his desire to see us all working, and living decent lives while being secure and safe.

HOWEVER:

President Trump's personality and skill set do not translate into politics. What worked in business as a negotiator does not work in Washington. He thinks he has leverage over people but he has none.

President Trump didn't quite understand the level of corruption, the length of time the corruption has been entrenching itself, or the source of the corruption. He thought he could fix the damage with some "tough love" and negotiating skills which worked in business, but don't work in Washington. He was wrong. VERY wrong.

Now we have a president trying to save face as he is exposed as powerless, and completely devoid of ANY ideas that ANYONE in Congress likes. Trump's "accomplishments" aren't accomplishments at all. How hard is it to go along with the Supreme Court picks that Mitch McConnell wanted? How hard was it to get corporate tax cuts which the Republicans in Congress wanted? Not hard.

What has Trump gotten in 2 years that was his idea alone? Nothing.

Today, we witnessed the end result of a negotiator who realized he has no leverage, but wants to save face. He's banking on looking compassionate regarding the furloughed workers, and he's hoping he can make Nancy look bad in 3 weeks. (He will fail).

The Trump presidency was a fantasy that good can overcome evil. He's not nearly big, bad, or tough enough to dismantle the deep state, and now he's just trying to buy time for re-election so he can continue trying to come up with ideas. (None of which will MAGA, even if he got what he wanted, which he never will).

Why didn't we have a wall after 2 years of a Republican Congress? Why didn't he force them to do it? Because he can't.

I haven't stopped "supporting" Trump, or hoping he succeeds, but I have certainly stopped expecting to see any signs of any progress toward that end. I think the American system of government is corrupt, tribal, and far too gone for any outsider to come in and dismantle it.

Soon enough another deep state stooge will be in the white house, and the media will be very happy about it.
