How in the world should Special Olympics be funded through the department of education? I mean, we have a local guy that is famous for his SO medals each year. He goes on the local radio and television channel and says which events he’s entering and then afterward he comes on and shows the medals he won. The thing is, he’ s 40! One of the guys that a fake news national storyline had gray hair. In our local case, one of the events is a golf tournament where each SO athlete is paired with a normally functioning adult. Quoting: docsquat Hey, I think Special Olympics is a great event for people that have special needs, but it shouldn’t come out of funds that our socialist teachers need in the classroom. What say you? volunteer with Special Olympics a few times and then you'll know why this decision to defund is wrong. And so what if the guy is 40?.....its not like he is going to be competing with you at the gym, in the job market, in sports, or anything else. |

Here is my background: worked for 15 years with severely disabled public school students fully 20% of my workday was for Special Olympics, at the taxpayer expense! that is one full school day a week - Special Olympics schedules almost all events on SCHOOL TIME so public school buses provide buses to and from practices, to and from events and personal care for the athletes. Ido volunteer, every year, at our state Special Olympics. Like I said, I've got no problem with SO, my problem is using funding through the Department of Education for adults that are no longer in school! Show me where I'm wrong about that?
