The North Pole is Sea Ice which has salt and that affects melting and therefore volume. The South Pole is primarily land Ice which is fresh water. So depending on which pole is loosing ice faster the rate of sea rise is affected by whether its fresh water or salt water .............. Not as simple as this thread title. Parts of Antartica that are getting press for giant ice blocks breaking off are sea ice too. This is very messy because we cannot model climate. Last Edited by BilloutWest on 04/03/2019 11:44 PM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70915305 Meltin fresh water ice in salt water raises the water level because of the density differential. Basic physics, easily tested. So, say I have a cup of salt water and put fresh water ice into it. After the initial displacement of the salt water by the ice cubes, the water levels will rise when the ice melts? "The Greenland ice sheet is 10,000 feet thick in places and contains enough ice to raise sea levels 23 feet (7 meters). In the 20th century, Greenland has lost around 9,000 billion tons of ice in total, accounting for 25 millimeters of sea-level rise. (It takes about 360 billion tons of ice to produce one millimeter of global sea-level rise.)" [link to www.nationalgeographic.com (secure)] Last Edited by Hermit 48 on 04/04/2019 12:49 AM |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 77528018 United States 04/04/2019 01:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sea levels do not rise due to melting sea ice. But if landlocked ice like on the continent of Antarctica or the Island of Greenland melts, I assure you it will rise sea levels. That being said global warming is real as is climate change, but the reality is this is completely normal and expected for this planet and has absolutely nothing to do with human activity and especially CO2. Its just a way for the bloodsucking leeches that lord over us to blame it on us and exploit us, and to excuse genocide, abortion and any other means of killing off the population. The real truth is they fear we are becoming unmanageable by a "thousand points of light" because we have evolved to the point most of us understand what they are doing, and we are on the verge of removing them from existence. |

So ice melting would fill them back up. This will bring rain back to the dry areas and growth and communities. Government do not want that to happen. |
