POTASSIUM instead SODIUM. EVERYTHING PROCESSED is chuck FULL of SODIUM and it can contribute to HBP. The recommend the salt substitute for people with HBP and when I was reading about it they mentioned (as did at least one poster above) that about 80% of the population is POTASSIUM deficient and we're getting waaaay too much sodium. So I switched. It doesn't TASTE any different really. Quoting: MR.GGG The problem with so many food sourced essential nutrients is that in the 3rd world they grown the same shit in the same soil year after year after year. Bananas are a prime example. Potassium chloride is REAL salt. They pawn sodium chloride off on us for the higher a profit margin. It's the only mineral that the government recommends having at least 3 grams per day, compared to 0.2 grams of Magnesium. The only weird thing is Quoting: elitedestini I just did some research trying to find potassium supplements, and i found that most of them are capped at 0.1 Grams per pill And even that is the higher end ones. So you would need 30 pills per day to meet your requirements Even though the average pill weighs 0.5 G, technically, they could stuff a lot more into a pill than 0.1 G. And they say most of us are potassium deficient. To get 3 G of recommended intake, you would need to eat like 8 bananas worth of potassium everyday. Most every other mineral, you can find the recommended intake value with generally 3 to 4 pills at most. So there is powder you can buy which is the only way to get your 3g of Potassium realistically. More important? No dumbass... They all work together you need a balance... |

It's usually stored so it's not safe to take much of it over the counter if you do. I have 99mg pill, not sure what that equates to except not much but I only take if if I feel crampy in the legs, couple times every few months or so, nothing regular because I know i get it in a lot of the foods I eat. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 69394291 It also helps balance the heart's rhythm. when my potassium level drops.. since 50 years ago now... its genetic... my heart does what I fondly call the "two step" 2 beats and then one PVC then two beats again and one PVC.... it grows slower and slower into the dangerous realm if I do not get some. Necessary to life. Mine anyway. |
stillhere User ID: 72031485 United States 04/09/2019 11:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | An Adult needs around 4700mg of potassium a day. They passed a law making the pills only 3% of the RDA so you don't harm yourself. Too much salt intake will deplete potassium. On a long fast it is good to add potassium to your water (see snake juice) links in prior posts. You can buy bulk potassium from "Bulk Supplements" they are sold on amazon also. I take potassium Bicarbonate when I need it. Magnesium is important, but won't kill you if you take a bit too much, you will just get the runs. Over time it is important to balance your vitamins and minerals. Most have ones that balance them-- like Copper / zinc-- really bad to have too much or too little of most vitamins and minerals. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77527076 United States 04/09/2019 11:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From what I have read, the reason a potassium pill is only 100mg is because there is a real risk of creating a ulcer in the stomach if you take a pill larger than 100mg and it sits against the side of your stomach in a concentrated form for too long without being diluted or digested. You can however, take potassium in other ways and in much higher doses safely. I've taken potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, potassium carbonate, potassium bicarbonate, etc. at one time or another in up to 1,000mg+ at a time doses without issue as long as I mixed it with water, took it with food, dissolved it in water first, etc. I did it that way mainly just to be safe, and to avoid throwing off my internal electrolyte balance from flushing my body with just one electrolyte too fast. If my electrolyte balance gets thrown off too fast I get muscle cramps. Yes, potassium is used to kill people as others have mentioned, but that is a direct injection of potassium into a vein not potassium that is taken orally and digested. Two totally different things. All that being said, I don't personally take potassium anymore because I always felt worse while taking it, no matter what amount I took. I always ended up feeling very cold and low on energy, even at small doses. I ended up figuring out through trial and error that my body was severely deficient in magnesium and somewhat deficient in calcium, so taking potassium was actually just making the symptoms of those deficiencies worse. Now that I have been taking a lot more magnesium and some supplemental calcium for a couple years, I don't really feel like anything related to my electrolytes is out of balance anymore so I haven't tried potassium again. |

Little side note a side effect of low potassium is anger and rage for no apparent reason, bad neck pains, etc. You will be very calm on potassium. |
