I am starting to believe that the stewards used this incident as an opportunity to penalize a trainer they are suspicious of (Jason Servis - many accuse him of being a 'juicer') and to reward a trainer that is very well respected in racing (Bill Mott - the guy who trained Cigar).

Two things -

First of Maximum Security got his start running a sixteen claimer. This was not a juiced horse, this was a horse run by the breeder for a low tag, who didn't know what they had until the horse won by crazy lengths.

Second, Bob Baffert is shady as fuck and he's won how many triple crown races in recent years? A few years back something like seven horses dropped dead in his barn. He's up to something funny and lots of people know it...

Servis, I don't know, but you don't juice a horse to run a sixteen claimer. Max was just that good.

There are two schools of thought o running him for a $16K tag.

1) They were sharp and rolled the dice. They knew he would win and were fairly confident he would not be claimed.

2) They were idiots who didn't know what they had and got lucky somebody didn't take the horse from him.

Neither of these situations would prove or disprove the horse being juiced.

Servis is very definitely suspected by some of juicing. Yes, people think Baffert juices as well. Anybody with a very high win % gets these suspicions.

I'm not claiming he was or was not juiced. I am saying many suspect him of it, and damn near everybody in the industry places Bill Mott on a pedestal.

Many fans think stewards would never take down Maximum Security if he were trained by Baffert. The 'other' high profile incident involving a DQ review involves Baffert's Bayern who won the Breeders Cup Classic in 2014. Plenty of people think he should have been DQd but wasn't because Baffert.

I'm glad Bayern wasn't DQd because I hit the superfecta in that race and was holding my breath thru the review.

Who knows...

Before that race the horse breezed sloooowww

You think you have a super good horse and want an easy win, you're still better off starting at a $25 tag unless it's a problem horse that acts up, or just isn't showing anything. The breeder often doesn't care but will usually try to hang on to a potential champ by running higher or flip it in an auction.
No trainer really knows how their horse will run until it races. Particularly whether they are mentally sound for it, or have the heart to win. Heart is the hardest factor to predict in advance.

Either way, that War of the Will jock ran a shitty ride, running into Maximum Security's ass and I thought that watching the race even before all those slow mo videos came out.

The trainer is known for workouts like that. The workout shows a 4 furlong workout but in reality the horse did a slow and steady mile.

Since the West's didn't lose the horse when he ran for $16K I don't get the criticism. Like you said, you don't really know what you have until the horse runs.
