The five-year policy outline wouldn't make drugs legal, but it would offer users treatment instead of punishment by redirecting "the resources currently destined to combat their transfer and apply them in programs — massive, but personalized — of reinsertion and detoxification," Obrador's policy statement read. "Public safety strategies applied by previous administrations have been catastrophic: far from resolving or mitigating the catastrophe has sharpened it," his statement read, adding that "prohibitionist strategy is unsustainable." "The war on drugs has been extremely costly, not just in terms of government resources, but also human lives, and it has failed to accomplish its objective," Steve Hawkins, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project, told Newsweek. "Prohibition policies have, by and large, caused more harm to people and communities than the drugs they were intended to eliminate, and they haven't come anywhere close to eliminating the supply or the demand." Obrador said he wants to pursue drug law reform in conjunction with the United Nations and the U.S., where it's estimated that $19 to $29 billion worth of Mexican cartel drugs are sold each year. Why not legalize drugs altogether in Mexico? Some have suggested that completely legalizing drugs in Mexico and the U.S. would cripple the cartels. But the Trump administration has said it would refuse to support any such legislation in Mexico or "anywhere." "Before, we had organized crime, but operating strictly in narcotrafficking," Eduardo Guerrero Gutiérrez, a consultant and former presidential advisor, told Foreign Policy. "Now we have a type of mafia violence… and they are extorting from the people at levels that are incredibly high — from the rich, from businesses." Newsflash! This is BS! Mexicans DON'T DO DRUGS! THEY are too poor, too Catholic, they don't even have running water or electricity! Less than 1% have health insurance. They ARE WAY too sensible! They don't even do plastic! You can't find a coca cola in anything but glass, maybe can! I lived there several years. MEXICANS DO NOT DO DRUGS, THEY HAVE NO MONEY! IT'S nothing, nothing like how we live. This is just to MAKE IT EASIER TO PUSH DRUGS THRU MEXICO TO SELL IN US! DON'T FALL for this OMG maybe you lived in Mexico in the 60s. Too poor? Some, but by and large they make plenty to live comfortably. Health Insurance? Medical prices are actually reasonable and you dont need it. They also tell you how much your care costs up front, not like this blank check we hand doctors in the US. Mexican health care is also very highly regarded. Coke in a glass, yes, but every Oxxo (thats like 7/11 since you didnt actually live there) sells tons of plastic just like their American counterparts. Mexicans by and large are a very conservative society. Doing drugs happens, but it pretty taboo down there. I just got back from Juarez visiting the Revolution Museum, Market, and a very modern shopping mall. The people are wonderful. I have been to most of the “dangerous” parts of Mexico in the last 5 years. Reynosa, Tijuana, Mexico City, Juarez; I have had nothing but a great time there. The people are wonderful, and the new President gives them a lot of hope. Socialist? He is making small business credits available to more businesses than ever. He is a Mexican nationalist who is really trying to fix Mexicos corruption issues and make the people powerful again. Dude you are retarded and don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Here we have 80 square blocks along the beach that are the tourist zone. This is your Disneyland cleaned up imitation of Mexico that you have experienced. They actually SWEEP THE STREETS and there are cops that run most of the criminals off. You go two blocks in the wrong direction and it's savagery unlimited. You haven't even been to Mexico. |

We can still build the wall I guess. Just put in those doirs like at Airports thst only open one way... Life is a spiritual war and no matter where we lay our head, we live in a warzone. There will be casualties. You do get to choose your side. I chose the Bright Side where my God fights for me. Others chose the Dark Side and fight for an entity that views them with disdain and discards them. |

It's lightyears ahead of US drug policy. Drugs don't have to be "legalized", just Decriminalized. Drug abusers need medical/psychiatric help, not criminal treatment. Decriminalize and take away the profit motive in dealing with drugs. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Slake Blake |
