The First 19 Foods You Should Stockpile For Disaster
A good stockpile of food will go a long way toward helping you survive the aftermath of any disaster or life crisis, especially when grocery stores are emptied.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say that there are people who are not preppers who nevertheless instinctively know to stockpile food. This really isn’t surprising when you consider that through most of mankind’s history, stockpiling food was essential to survival — specifically surviving the winter months. During those months, wildlife is bedded down trying to stay warm and plants are dormant. If one didn’t have a good stockpile of food, their chances of survival were pretty darn slim.

Not much cash?

Go to a feed and grain store. Get 40# bags of raw rolled oats for about $15. This is the same rolled oats in the Quaker Oats cylinder container except it is not toasted, which adds flavor and starts the breaking down of the cellulose so it can be digested.

This MUST be cooked fully for you to be able to extract any nutrition. You do not have the digestive system of a horse, cow or goat.

You need 1500 - 3000 calories per day per person.
1 gallon of water per person per day.
A typical serving is like 200 calories, so you need things to go with like friut, veggies, beans, potatoes, butter ect.
Set a goal and a budget, I try to do 20% when I can, water in 500 gal tanks tied to rain recovery from 5000 sq ft of roof it fills in 10 minutes. I am in so cal or northern mexico. no local water supply.

Cheapest, feed store oats and grains $30.00 for 100 pounds, stores ok in dry dark room rolled oats not so good, i have 500 Lbs in totes for 3 years now. Used a bag of oat groats a few months ago to feed the rabbits they make a mess out of it so when i cleaned up the cages i put it in a raised planter 8 ft x 30ft for fertilizer and shitload sprouted and grew, i got like 2 bails of oat hay fresh greens. You can sprout them.

Store bought Canned meats. stores for a year or so. We eat a can or so a week so i have like 50 cans that we rotate.

Long term basics from Provident living LDS pick up from the Bishops store house is about the same price as stores like costco or sams but it comes in #10 cans with a shelf life of 25 years, rolled oats, rice, pasta, beans and ect.

Long term
I have been doing this for more than a decade so this is what i learned. I found that adding 1 can of real soup or something to like 6 servings of freeze dried helps the taste a lot. extends serving and tastes like something you normally eat. My kids ate it.

Entree's long term storage shelf life 10-25 years, add hot water let soak and eat. Must shop price and compare cost per servings, calories per servings, ingredients and shelf life do the math.
Soups and stews for apx 30 cents per serving.
Rice and or bean with real chicken apx. 50 cents per serving.
Pasta and real meat apx. $1.00 - 2.00 per serving.
Walmart on line with free shipping has been the best price, watch for sales like half off.
Sauces pasta, marinara, alfreado, gravy From Thrive or Shelf reliance? a lot of choices that store well.

Never buy anyone's kits they count a serving of sugar as a serving ect.

Coffee beans i store and rotate 10 each 2 pound bags.

You still gotta prep a little.
My Plan is
Beans
Rice
Potatoes

Beans and rice with mexicans
Rice and stir-fry asian's
Potatoes with white folks
Don't like dark meat so.

Got lots of franks hot sauce, I put that shit on everything.

rice and beans take a lot of water
and a lot of energy to cook.

should it be among your food stores? yes

for survival, you should also have
ready to eat, no fire, no water, required
food as well.

Uh........I just lost a lot of weight by eating a lot of popcorn. Plus the buttery flavored oil needs no refrigeration. haha, I need to look into its shelf life. Other than that I live within an easy bike ride of several good fishing ponds and lakes.
