When I was a kid back in the 60s, I lived in the house behind the house the secret service used to protect the Truman’s in independence, Missouri. That house was across from the Truman home. I knew the Truman’s and would get to their house through the secret service house yard. Would play ball with the agents. Help them out. I ended up spending a lot of time around them. Several of them had been in charge of Kings detail... it was not just the FBI who were following him Those agents hated that guy. It was the worst detail you could get assigned to in the secret service. I not only heard their stories, I heard real time from agents who were following him and calling their agents at the Truman house. One morning they were checking out of a hotel that they had booked full with Kings people and they wanted the hotel owner to tear up the bill and he wouldn’t. They beat the shit out of him and left and the agents called the agent at the Truman home to ask him what they should do. He told them to do nothing except write a report. It had happened before and he knew how the secret service wanted it handled. I was there and heard the call live. It was brutal.
