I was involved in some "tame" and ethics-board approved research on a state university campus.

We were essentially locking people in a box, frightening the fuck out of them, and studying their reactions.

It was all very clinical, clinical setting, but that's what it was.

So, one day I was sitting there collecting the data from the various recording devices and sensors and talking to one of the lead researchers.

I asked if she was concerned about the long term or lasting ramifications to the emotional health and well-being of the test subjects.

Her answer was it was just research, so they wouldn't be harmed.

And this was some of the milder on-campus research I ever witnessed. I've seen much, much worse research with student participants in the social sciences building of an ivy league where the ethics board either weren't involved or were fucking daft.

The asshat "professionals" in the field should all be lined up against the wall and shot.
