ADS-B and GPS issues have been reported, confirmed by the FAA

That was meant as a joke. When I used them I never could fold them back right.

GPS is actually pretty low power, deep

in the negative db's @ 22300 miles up .

How many low orbit Star what ever satellites

have they sent up so far ?

Could be a jamming effect .

I put up the link up up on Freightdogs Anonymous a FB page for freight pilots. Several good comments from people in the trenches of commercial aviation. Just posted the FAA notice also. Will be interesting to see what these guys come up with

Mike Rogers We have a ton of planes down right now due to the GPS problem that happened late friday. We are having to replace a ton of MMR Recievers on the 767's and the MD11's.

Automatic dependent surveillance—broadcast (ADS–B) is a surveillance technology in which an aircraft determines its position via satellite navigation and periodically broadcasts it, enabling it to be tracked. The information can be received by air traffic control ground stations as a replacement for secondary surveillance radar, as no interrogation signal is needed from the (less than 50% the whole thing is in the link below)

Several operators are experiencing operational impact after a GPS timing issue exposed an error in some newer Multi-Mode Receivers.
Many airlines selected MMR replacement as their strategy to comply with the FAA 2020 ADS-B Out mandate. Several of these units appear susceptible to a clock synchronization issue when the addition of “leap second” is added, as occurred yesterday.

How did those planes fly back before GPS?

They had a dedicated Navigator onboard

so, now the Worldwide Passenger Airline Airplanes are flying blind now?

Some loaded with explosives or chemicals that would cause a big badaboom in selected cities.

Technical human glitch in software or equipment isn't nearly as symbolically a-ha as solar flares or other natural disturbances giving a sort of FU to humans and their arrogant Tower of Babel.

I was aware of this. Just being sarcastic. It's amazing how dependent we have become on such a fragile system as GPS.

There are other systems though. I'm not sure if it's still operating, but airports used to broadcast a signal that aircraft could use for directional aid.

And as I understand it there's a partial ground based gps system in alpha right now.
