I'd be less amazed if this was just one of a bunch of rocks with the strange properties. But this is the only one.
Strange indeed.
I will guess it is the remains of a meteorite but that does not explain the square holes. Doesn't sound like it is a useful shape either.

The chalice of Calera de Tango cathedral, stolen in the 1980's, was said to have been of iron, and with a series of strange letter like symbols. It was also rust proof. Only a few low res pictures exist of it. Highly likely that chalice was forged out of the material taken from Veas-01 by the Jesuits in colonial times.
