I wonder if bronze age writers knew clouds were just visible.moisture? It's an odd claim as just floating "down" from the sky would be fine. Strange what people put in their tales which later sound silly. So often they project what they value or fear into the storyline. This means lots of gold, gates etc, and find fabrics among others. You can certainly see why illiterate populations would be attracted to the myth. told to them by holy men who read from the holy book. The unknown men who wrote most of the bible had faith but little proof. That was,is,the retort when questioning the tales. "Oh yee of little faith" or " by your faith you will be saved". Spoken like a true snake oil salesmen. What if you decline belief? A much saner response. Well you will be burned alive for eternity. What's not to love? One hell of a book to quote from as truth.
