I just moved into a house with one. What do you mean by "serviced?" I signed a contract where they come out every 6 mos. Btw, I have an aerobic tank so not sure if that's a different thing.

Our first septic tank was a huge metal barrel. I don't remember anyone coming to pump it out. We replaced it with a plastic model after about 20 yrs when the top rusted out and it was dangerous to drive anything over it. I expect we will get 20 years or more out of this one.

Truly I think the issue with septics and how often to get them pumped is how well they drain and where they are placed. We have long lateral lines that are slightly downhill from the tank.

Good point OP. I am going to call this week for mine. Our street is in the city, but also large lots. We have been able to keep our systems. I shall get mine serviced and frankly it's about time too that I did.

Make sure your sink/shower/washing machine discharge is going the same place your roof gutters drain. Only flush turds, no paper at all. This is how to eliminate the need for tank pumping.

You morans would be lucky to last a day in a doom scenario. If the virus becomes a pandemic a fucking septic tank is going to be the last of your worries smh
