Social Security offices closed to public?

I really hope this only lasts 15 days. And not more.

For the people that need to go in person to get ss cards etc I guess they will find a way to handle it all by phone.

Really? The way the government is NOT doing the right thing?

The stop and frisk on the way in was pretty daunting.

Here in the U.K too , received this online message this morning : "PLEASE BE AWARE In light of the recent updates from the Government regarding Covid-19 (Coronavirus). You do not have to attend the Jobcentre, and any booked appointments will now be taking place over the phone. Please use your journal to make contact with your Work Coach or Case Manager"

We have those here to, ours is careersource, guess I'll find out throughout the day what's all closed.

Just call them if you need something.

This way you won't have to wait in hours long lines with a bunch of foreigners who can speak English and have never worked a day in their lives on the books trying to steal SS our money.

At least that's been my experience the two times I've had to actually go to an office. It's maddening!

Yes. All work will be via "telework". No in office appointments for the foreseeable future. And they've never used the software at most offices. Good luck

Ive been doing deliveries around town today. Usually stop at parks to use toilets... They're closed. McDonald's lobby closed (drive thru is mobbed).
Public utilities is open.
Smaller companies didn't want to let me in the door. Was greeted by a meow man is long blue gloves and sanitizer bottle. Everyone in hospitality is slow.
Its a shit show. I pointed out to the McDonald's lobby that their sign says they CHOSE to listen to "local authorities" and close their lobby. I specified to their customers that they did not HAVE to do that. They are NOT preventing anything. Its ridiculous. People agreed and nodded but nothing happened. As usual.


Also seeing coast guard and national gaurd helicopters all day.

Yea. Job and Family Services (welfare office) is closed to the public too. You have to call and have them mail you your form.

WIC offices are also closed. They do form interviews and you stop in just to load your card.

You don't have to go in person if you have an online Social Security account.

The Social Security office is closed to public without an appointment because of the coronavirus scare. My card went missing in September 2020 so I needed to order a new one. I was directed to order one online. I went on the site and to order a card through there you need to first make an account. In order to make an account you must verify yourself.

Steps to verify yourself:
1) Enter personal information on webforms.
2) Receive a text message with a link to a smartphone photographing service.
3) Click text link and then proceed to photograph your ID card, front and back.
4) If done correctly you get a confirmation message telling you to wait for the social security office to send you a code through the regular physical mail system.

I followed these directions in September 2020. I did not receive that physical mail containing the code. Without that code my online social security account cannot be opened.

So, it being almost 2 months later and me still being without a card decided to call them and as of right now I am still on hold waiting for the next available representative 1 hour 20 minutes. While waiting on hold I returned to their site and tried to repeat the process of photographing my ID card and now there is a red letter message saying "We cannot process your request at this time."

What the hell am I supposed to do? Without my card I cannot go to the DMV and I cannot verify my identity in other critical situations that require it. Suggestions anyone?

Yep. All social security buisness needs to be done via fax or email.

This will make it super easy for Biden and his rich friends to kick most all poor people off social security and fire 90% of the agency workforce.

I dont see this option on the site. If I ever make it past hold and get a human being on the line maybe they can tell me about faxing.

It's been this way since June. I couldn't get my new baby's birth certificate for 2 months and the offices were closed and only had phone numbers.

The government is actually more efficient this way. They send out forms and replies nearly instantly. Used to take hours or weeks.

So, following my post about this at 1 hour 30 minutes on hold I finally got through. The lady on the line said that you cannot use fax or email.

I was given the direct number to my local social security office and I called them. I was answered almost immediately with no hold time and my issue was taken care of.
