You don’t really have to be that old. I’m sure most people over 40 remember pay phones.

It wasn’t that long ago.

I remember using a payphone that only costed $0.10. That's how old I am.

Yeah I loved em. Now I'm glad they're gone, with all this social diseases, who wants to share a public phone.

Ain't too old but I remember they costed 20 cents when I was using em. And If I didn't have that I used 1-800-collect!

Yes I remember and I also remember not to go barefooted in the thing, as a lot of guys liked to pee while using the phone.

We pranked a payphone in junior high one time, smeared apple sauce all over the receiver. Then one of the school gang members went to use it and got sauce all over his ear, LOL he was fuckin mad bro!

Before I could drive, my friends and I would hang out at the mall and watch a movie, unchaperoned. When it was over, we'd call one of those free collect call numbers from the pay phone.

Then one of our parents would get a call that went something like, "Hello. This is 1-800-COLLECT with a collect call from...'themoviesovercomepickusup!' Would you like to accept the charges?"

It was understood that they were not to accept the charges because everything that needed to be communicated we'd blurt out super fast after "please state your name".

I do too and I’m only 51, but it went to $0.25 when I was under 10.

Yea basic training at fort benning, GA before they went infantry only.

I paid like $19.95 I think and got like a 200 minute scratcher card lol.

I remember one that was broken, paid off like a slot machine:

Put in a nickel, hit coin return, get a dime.
Put in a dime, hit coin return, get a quarter.
Put in a penny, hit coin return, get a nickel.

It was the damnedest thing, one afternoon in 1972

I remember using it and even using the phonebook that was hanging underneath the phone, haha. I'm not even 40 yet.

I also remember when I worked at a store and people were always using the payphone in the early days of widespread cell phone usage. Scrubs would ask to use the store's phone all the time too, and I would refuse them all. The payphone is there for you scrub!

That means the phone was both wiretapped and someone also did something to the mic receiver on the bottom of it. I wouldn't be within 10 miles of one of those :o.

We had one outside of the library I worked at in 1999. Then when we closed for remodeling, they took it out, and when we reopened in 2001 we couldn't get the phone company interested in putting it back on the premises because they figured with everyone having a cellphone they wouldn't make any money on it.

I managed to guess real credit card numbers after seeing my first visa and its first 4 numbers.

Then they'd always ask to repeat the number and I'd get mad as shit and hang up.

All you need now is a face mask, rubber gloves, and some safety glasses.

Hell yes, my town had one in particular that wasn't a booth but more of a walk up but this one had like a 6' cord and you could pull up to it and talk on the phone in your vehicle....
