New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and St. Louis are among many cities that have temporarily banned evictions, but advocates for the strike are demanding that rent payments be waived, not delayed, for those in need during the crisis. The rent strike idea has taken root in parts of North America and as far away as London.

This is one movement I can DEFINITELY get behind, wow...

I can get a lot more money from latino immigrant tenants. You'd be surprised how much the government pays to house them. Plus I get tax breaks for keeping them as tenants.

Better be careful you Bernie loving free-for-all grab what you can get for nuthin junkies. I can guarantee you that most of these so-called no-eviction policies -- and they are just policies -- will not stand the test of the courts and emergency injunctions to stop extra judicial non-enforcement by law enforcement to execute writs off possession after a an eviction judgment is obtained. And politicians should get solid direction from their general counsels before blabbing such things in front of the media to score points with the voters for their future campaigns.

Trial courts have no authority to ignore or change the law. Only state legislatures could do that. And even they will have a hard time throwing out contract and common law in one area as it applies to residential leases without upsetting the whole body of contract law and jurisprudence.

Furthermore, a local sheriff or police agency tasked with executing writs of possession cannot just refuse to carry out their sworn constitutional duties without repercussions. And, I guarantee you it will get challenged immediately by very active landlords in the various state appellate and supreme courts as emergency actions demanding immediate hearing and rulings.

Keep in mind that many of these head law enforcement officers are de-facto politicians making big statements without the legal standing to make them. Just because they say it doesn't mean it's so. Unfortunately, the sheeple will cherry pick the information that best suits them and I fear that many will stop paying legally obligated rent because they heard someone on the news say that they can just top paying rent. If that happens there will be hell to pay in unintended consequences.

Well, they won't get their money from me.

Because I don't have any more. I lost my job. No savings.

So, they won't get it from me, because I will become homeless soon.

I know that there are going to be people that are going to slam me for this but here goes.

Please do not direct your anger at your landlords... at least not in all cases. My parents are in their 70's. They own several rental properties. They are anything but slumlords, always keep the properties up and treat their renters with respect. This is their only income. Right now they are doing all that they can to work with their tenants while trying to make ends meet themselves. They will have to make Aprils mortgage payment on all but one house while the renters pay what they can.

I'm just saying that in some cases it wouldn't hurt to understand that this can be a very difficult time for the landlords as well.

No offense, but the Chinese and East Indians bought half of Vancouver by living together, paying off the mortgage, splitting, and helping one another buy more and more until those homes were mortgage free. I guess they are just smarter then all of us really. I was a landlord but I found out that you do not have alloidal title to the land so said screw it, am now a renter. Pay for your whole life for a chunk of land you do not even own? The big con game is ending. WWG1WGA!

Libtard millenials wrongfully think owning a house incurs no expense to the owner so they feel justified and have no shame in opportunistically squatting.

But landlords have a key to your rental and if you have a job you'll find your shit on the sidewalk and the locks changed by the time you get home. They'll have no choice but to deal with the consequences after they get a responsible tenant in there.

When the landlords lose their properties because they have mortgages to pay, you’ll still be out and so will they.

They also run small businesses and skim cash, things we'd get arrested for too. I would build a log cabin before I'd live with a dozen other people. The mooches can go try living off them.

Mostly the new immigrants get a house, they work jobs (they do not all of a sudden have small businesses), then work on themselves and then buy more houses.
