"Gold ETFs offer some of the same defensive-asset-class traits as bonds, and many investors use them to hedge against economic and political disruptions, as well as currency debasement."

i think (*from what i remember) it meant "Electronically Transferred Funds"?

I think it has to do with dating the transaction vs real time transfer to accounts ?
It's life as we know it, but only just.

Shouldn't hedging be illegal?

Re: Gold Bugs, What does ETF inflow mean?
I was going to explain this but I NEVER want to make a mistake about investing money. So here is some copy pasta.

An exchange-traded fund (ETF) is a basket of securities that trade on an exchange, just like a stock.

ETF share prices fluctuate all day as the ETF is bought and sold; this is different from mutual funds that only trade once a day after the market closes.

ETFs can contain all types of investments including stocks, commodities, or bonds; some offer U.S. only holdings, while others are international.

ETFs offer low expense ratios and fewer broker commissions than buying the stocks individually.

Basically they (ETF's) are baskets of multiple securities meant to be automatically diverse thus lowering risk.

The Inflow of cash into ETF's that contain either physical Gold or say Gold mining stocks is on the rise. Investors see Gold as a good investment during uncertain times...

When enough stand for delivery.
They will default and pay in cash like the prospectus dutifully states.
Physical will go no bid.
Who knows what happens then.

Re: Gold Bugs, What does ETF inflow mean?
Don't buy gold ETFs. The point of gold is for when the system collapses. ETFs rely on the system and are worthless when the the system is gone. No internet, no electricity, no postal/parcel delivery system, no nothing. Your ETFs are worthless.
