It became the topic of comedians on stage locally and believe it or not, these guys are STRAIGHT (well, most of them) doing a parody of Ideal

This is one of their rare tv ads (rare, in that they only shot 3 of them in 40 years!). This was the last one produced, probably in the mid 1970's. It ran until 1998!!!

Well, sorry. I only meant it as an example of just HOW MUCH this ad was in the local Phila. culture and for so long. I am looking for examples of it on utube and this vid came up.

that also used to be one of my highlights of watching recorded movies/tv shows in VHS back in the day.

It used to be the "old" Atlantic City Expressway, even though it would take 5 hrs. to get there, with all the traffic lights every quarter mile!

Finally, in the early 70's, they built a direct highway to the beaches!

I know, me too. I love old cheap ads. This was another local Phila. tv phenomenon, the Krass Bros. Men's store. They would run spots that would only last 10 seconds! But BECAUSE they would fill the 10 seconds with a short comical type of guy getting his face hit with a cream pie (like The 3 Stooges style) and because of the impact of 10 seconds, they became very popular and people would go to their store! The ones from the 1960's were funnier but they were still trying to recreate it in the 80's and 90's when the guy was a lot older (the older ads aren't available anywhere, I've been lookin'). They replaced the pie in the face with scantily clad girls and continued their popularity.

Some never make it there.

I used to really enjoy the jingles on TV.

Cal Worthington was the inspiration for a lot of movie and television show characters.

In the 70's, 80's and 90's, no one ever knew their ad jingle had originally been recorded in 1960! With the release of the video, with the picture of the disc with the date on it, it becomes real. I had no idea.

I remember their 1970 tv ad, and on, with that same jingle, with the brand new 1970 Lincoln Continental, mark II! That one ran to about 1984. We used to giggle as kids because 'there's that ad with the old car on again!' and each year the car just looked older and older. Not to mention the models' hairdoos and their clothes. They were never a huge store, just a (WWII surplus) 'Quonset hut', as the song says, in the middle of nowhere, practically.

Wow, thanks. I knew that SOMEONE might've remembered it! So many millions of people heard the ad and for so long! The same exact ad!
