Got a question about unemployment running out
So I was out of work for a week last year at this time and filed claim 5/19/19. Went back to work the next week so didn't even end up collecting anything since it was the grace period and forgot to close out the claim.

Fast forward to this year I claimed when laid off in late march and my benefits have been coming through fine. I got notification however this week that my claim would be expiring because I believe the system didn't start a new claim date and just went off the time I filed last year. It now says my claim date ends this week.

Should I file a new claim immediately? Will I even be able to? Will it just get extended? Should I wait till Monday to find out? Lot of questions and any help or advice is greatly appreciated. It's impossible to get a rep on the phone so I have no clue what to do.

I think you must wait a year to file a new claim
The state may make an exemption in these times.
However, if you receive the $600 CARES
Act federal payment attached to your state
UI, continue to file because you should
still be eligible for it through 7/31.

It may vary from state to state. But you can possibly file a new claim when your old claim expires. You have to have worked enough hours, made enough money since your last claim. What state are you in?

I am in New York.

The thing is I didn’t receive any money when I initially claimed. I worked all of 2017-19. Was laid off for a week and filed, but was called back to work within a week and never went back on to cancel this claim. So in total I’ve worked for 3 1/2 years steady with no benefits up until this March and have only received about two months worth of benefits

Why are you worrying about it?

File a new claim or ask for an extension.
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.

Re: Got a question about unemployment running out
I’ve tried filing now multiple times and it continues to say system timed out. Does anyone thing it maybe just automatically extended itself considering that I filed this claim quite recently and should have many more days of eligibility? It says claim expires this week yet below that it says I still have 72 days of eligibility so it’s confusing

There are faqqots on this site that don't like people collecting unemployment. They view it in the same light as welfare. Of course they are fully employed. As long as they have "theirs" they don't give a shit about the "have nots".

That’s ridiculous to equate the two as equals. Do they not understand that to be eligible people have to have worked and be taxed weekly paying into such programs. I’ve earned my fucking UI.

It is hard to find answers on purpose. The governor is trying to keep unemployment rates down. Hiding info is one of many maneuvers to screw the working class
