No. If your body were rendered for oil/fat for biodiesel, and the bones and protein used as crop fertilizer, the service would be without charge.. If you wanted cremation or burial instead of utilization of your body substances, then there would be standard charges like any funeral parlor would charge.

If your favorite dog becomes too old to stand up and is in pain, do you let it die over the course of a week or two, or do you euthanize your best friend? Most of us would euthanize.

We could do it like buying a gun. Make the arrangements and have a minimum number of days to wait until we can "arrive for our appointment". That will give the person some time to think it over.

It should not be your decision if I die or not. You live your way and allow me to live mine. Put the option on the table for us to consider.

We should not have to explain our reasons for wanting to die. It is our business and we should not have to "qualify" by someone's opinion of our decision. Women get abortions simply because they want to so that should be enough.

it's still a bit new to me, but i can understand it in a very small percentage of cases. you mentioned above 60 and not able to care for yourself. i don't know how much the age has to do with it. i do think though, and i only speak for myself, if i were in a position where i was not able to care for myself, and only causing others pain, it might be a sad option.

Then again, if you were already dead, you'd never be aware of the cure, so I suppose it wouldn't matter to you.

So many people over age 80 develop dementia of one degree or another, and/or they are a burden on their family or even on society. A pleasant death at old age is surely preferable to surviving in a nursing home or living dependently on one's children or grandchildren. And one could consider choosing age 70 or 75 as a kind of buffer to avoid the increasing chances of developing the maladies of old age that would make a pleasant death problematic.

FTR, my mother died last year, 6 days before her 96th birthday. Yeah, we would all come over and give her a hand, and she did have help. But, she was a s sharp as a tack until the day she died.

As a person of Faith, I don't believe in assisted suicide. Physicians are to heal, not kill.

I personally have had 2 friends commit suicide. One was when I was in my 20's. Tom was 26, good looking guy, with an extremely domineering father, and a mother who would not stick up for her children against their domineering father. Tom should have moved out, but instead he killed himself.
My other friend was in her 70's, but very healthy. Her husband had health problems. She was overwhelmed, and killed herself.

Yes... this obsession with life comes from people who enjoy life. Not everyone was raised with a good upbringing or good genetics or has had that nice, well adjusted overall happy life. If they want to end it early, more power to them. I'm not going to go on if I'm incapacitated and incapable of taking care of myself. Not going to live as a vegetable.
