I have friends who scrap, they say the price for all metals is in the shitter. Barely worth making the rounds to pick it up.

I went into the Wal Mart in Princeton NJ earlier. When I went down the aisle with soda on one side and bottled drinks on the other, there was a Pepsi vendor standing there looking at the shelves which were half empty in front of him.

I asked if Pepsi is having supply problems and he said "yes, they can't get aluminum now".

I realize we can live without soda cans. But for many of us there are all kinds of aluminum products that might be good to stock up on. Foil, disposable pans.

A great deal of manufacturing relies on aluminum parts. Our terrible action in outsourcing aluminum manufacture to China is just one more thing that is going to bite us for months at a minimum, along with meds and so many other items.

About twenty years ago (I have no idea if this still obtains) bauxite was shipped to Iceland - I believe from the US - to be processed and then back to the US as aluminum, because there is incredible water power in Iceland and energy costs are so much lower there, that shipping up and back still was cheaper than using the electricity here or anywhere.
