Is anybody else becoming a first time gun owner? | |

This gun and the Springfield Hellcat are basically the two newest models that combine concealability, small size, good recoil management, and pack more rounds into a magazine. If you buy the sig make sure to get one manufactured in 2020. The manufacture date is on the box. It's hard to find 9MM ammo right now but bricks of .22lr are plentiful, so also look at a Ruger 10/22 and/or Taurus TX-22. |

I went to the gun store today and they are out of almost everything. Apparently I'm not the only person that is preparing for a civil war to break out. Anyway, I don't know much about guns, so I was thinking maybe the Mossberg 500 shotgun would be appropriate for a first time gun owner. The gun shop owner suggested that I might also want to consider the Mossberg 590. And I also have to decide between a 12 gauge or a 20 gauge. Does anybody have any suggestions about what is an easier option for a first time gun owner? I'm mainly concerned about self defense, more so than hunting. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77215606 My first weapon was in 2008 (because of Obama) and was a Remington 870 12 ga shotgun. A 12 ga shotgun (Mossberg too) is great. I like the variety of shot shells, the sound of racking it, and the fact that it's great for hordes of people trying to attack. Make sure you replace the standard stock with a shock absorbing pistol grip stock because that makes it easier and more comfortable to use. I learned after seeing my shoulder become black and blue using the standard stock after a few hours at the gun range You should also consider a high powered rifle like a 308 that can make a kill at 1,000 yards because you want something that will repel an enemy before they can throw molotov cocktails at your home, etc. I'm not big on pistols. In states where it matters there is no conceal carry right, the rules are most restrictive on pistols and the range and accuracy of a pistol is not better than a shotgun. |
