Do you currently have a gov backed mortgage? If you do, I wonder if you can still go into a forbearance for a year?
Quoting: Max Powers Yes, I actually have a USDA loan. I will look into this. Thank you. Quoting: Zedakah *facepalms* I just totally let out a sigh of relief when I saw this post. My sister and her husband are almost 60. The hospital where her husband has worked for over 30 years in maintenance just laid him off - permanently. They just bought a house. Everything went through. So now they own a house they can't pay for and where is he going to find a job at almost 60 years of age? All that retirement he paid into? Gone. Just freaking gone. My heart goes out to you and yours. Quoting: Eireann Yeah, that's the kicker. It's not like I have been making minimum payments for 20 years on debt beyond my means. I JUST bought a house for the first time 2 years ago, partly because we were better off in the past 4 years than the previous 12 combined (before that). I was tired throwing money away to landlords that I'd never see a return on, so I bought a house at a very good price. My suggestion for your sister's family would be to create some product and attempt to sell it. I will certainly be trying the same thing. Generate your own wealth instead of skimming it from another place. I know that's not always an option, but in these times you have to try everything. Also, as another poster suggested, try to rent a room of the house out. I will certainly do that before foreclosing.
