Widest part of the neck you are an absolute idiot, they are right next to the trachea, do you touch behind your ears to take a pulse or under the chin an inch in next to the trachea. Good grief. I take my pulse frequently during cycle class to gauge my heartrate. I take it over the external cartoid because it's pounding and easy to find. Right below the back corner of the jaw bone (under the ear), not under my chin lol. And that's the external cartoid. The internal one is further back. The internal one is next to the spine which is even more protected from the lateral protuberance of the spine and the musculature on the back and side. All I’m saying is try the position I completely changed my mind. Pressure on the back is another story we found that tasking and we are in our 30s and in shape.
