I was thinking more along the lines of a pending trial or verdict...but don't see anything in the news. Also, it is very odd that district commanders are not in the loop for whatever it is.

Since every major city department seems to be struggling with losing officers and being understaffed. I'd assume that is the most likely cause.

Cops are fleeing the major shitholes(basically any major city) at record rates, this is the most likely answer to overworking those that are remaining.

It is really bad in Chicago and it is not making the news.

Gangs of black, mostly teen thugs trash Downtown on most nights and every weekend. There is looting, attacks on whites and others. None of this makes the news and it hasn't for a long time.

As for the cops, there is such a shortage of police in each district because the rocket scientists at the top of the police hierarchy take cops from each district and have them Downtown as a laughable deterrent, but they have stand-down orders to not engage.

There are not enough police cars to go around either. Cops get put on a bus and dropped off at various locations throughout the ghetto. In some cases, in front of burned-out and looted stores, where they stand for 12 hours. No bathrooms, no place to eat, and no place to even sit.

Their other option is to use their own vehicle to go to their assigned location. Who would do that?

It is so bad they are ordering detectives to dress in uniform and stand duty with the other cops, instead of investigating crimes.

Nobody wants to be a Chicago cop. Last I heard, only 30 or so signed up for the academy. At least a hundred either quit or retire every month.

How much more can the Chicago Police Department rank and file take? This week it was announced that the entire Chicago Police Department (CPD) will be working 12 hour days with days off canceled starting May 21st to the 7th of June. Burn out and utter exhaustion is a real thing occurring in the Chicago Police Department. Does anyone see that this is a Police Department under enormous stress with ineffective leadership and is being micro managed by a Mayor’s Office that doesn’t have a clue? With the release of the new hacked emails, even City Hall felt that Supt. Brown could not handle last summer’s violence which led to a historic rise in violent crime. Was there ever a Mayor’s Office so unprepared to meet the city’s escalating public safety challenges? If anything the leaked emails revealed a classic case of “the blind leading the blind.”

I have been posting about this since last May, about the stripping of Officers from local districts and the consequences in escalating violent crime. Recently the CWB Chicago wrote an article confirming my posts. The CWB stated “local districts across the city have lost 18% of their officers since David Brown became CPD Superintendent.” Is removing beat officers creating a better relationship with the community when 18% of a District’s manpower is in a citywide unit and not in the local district beat car? Some of the most violent CPD

Districts have lost almost 25% of their manpower. How in the world is this smart policing? The problem of officer shortages is being compounded by the failure to fill the growing number of Detective vacancies, even as the murder rate continues to climb. At the same time, the failure to fill Supervisory (Sergeants) vacancies is undermining effective Police supervision, not to mention a direct violation of the Consent Decree. Welcome to the defunding and degrading of the Chicago Police Department, Chicago style!
