They'll be fine. Reduced, but fine. New startups need not apply unless you got major support and aren't financially hurting. Huge rock bands will be okay. Niche musicians are probably going to need to get jobs as if they were barely surviving before they might be starving now.

Rock bands won’t survive without their swag sales from concert venues.

They make most of their revenues from T-shirt, posters, etc.

If they are not selling out stadiums, they will not be making the money they are used to.

They make very little on the actual music they release, the label gets the bulk and venues get the bulk of ticket sales.


Musicians depend heavily on sales of T-shirt and poster at their concerts.

I watched vax live show, the artists that performed sounded desperate when they preached about YOU all getting vaxxed.

They need you at their shows.

I do (did) a lot of concerts.

I had tickets for upcoming concerts, but then came Covid. Some are postponing their tour. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets (ex-Pink Floyd) has postponed his tour twice already, now planned for 2022. He's not getting younger (currently 77).


Nick Cave cancelled his tour and everyone would get his money back, but it's not happening. I received an email back in January, had to give all my info. But no refund so far.

Before covid we went to every concert and music festival that time and money allowed. Now we are taking a pass. Until concerts are mask and social distancing free and no one is either denied entry or segregated based on their guinea pig status I can listen to the radio for free and protest with my pocketbook.

Good, make more of this happen. None of them are saying anything useful. Where is the revolution and strife. Rockstars use to be about the people against the machine, now they ARE the machine and are pushing it against the people. May they live in trash, like the trash they push.

Most of the megastar musicians need to tour in order to make most of their money.

Why?

Because most megastar musicians don't actually write their own songs. Who gets the publishing royalties from radio airplay and music licensing? The writer(s) of the songs do, not the musicians.

What kind of royalties do musicians get? They get what are called mechanical/performance royalties. These come from the actual sales of songs, albums, and of course performances.

Some musicians get wise. For example, very often when a big musician agrees to perform a song, he/she/the manager usually requires the songwriter to surrender half of their publishing royalties (in other words the song would be listed as "written by" the musician even if they didn't contribute any lyrics or melodies.

If you ever wondered why Madonna plays few of her 80's classics at concerts (pre-corona), this is why. She didn't write those songs.

So yes, unless the big famous musicians are also authors of their own music, the pandemic shutdowns are utterly wrecking them.

We used to go to many concerts. But we're not going anywhere a mask is required. Not my idea of fun. And they can keep their "vaccines"

DH plays in a local band and bookings are starting to come in. People hiring for private parties at their houses, and some small bars. So there is hope.

Go support local musicians, they're just as much fun as the big acts.

A friend of ours owns a company which provides all the gear for concerts, stage equipment, sound etc. There are absolutely no jobs and he is now selling off his gear to survive. The problem is everyone is selling their gear so the prices and demand have tanked too.

All this scene is overrated and musicians are overrated in general. Entertainers, nothing more, no much value as circus or whores. Not art and art also is overrated. This all are non-essential parts of civilization only.

F... them all.

No one is going to pay big bugs for that.
