Ransomware attack forces shutdown of largest fuel pipeline in the U.S
Colonial Pipeline fell victim to a cybersecurity attack on Friday that involved ransomware, forcing it to temporarily shut down all pipeline operations.

Colonial transports nearly half of the East Coast’s fuel supply through a system that spans over 5,500 miles between Texas and New Jersey.

The pipeline transports gasoline, diesel, home heating oil and jet fuel. It also supplies the military.

John Kilduff, a partner at Again Capital in New York, said the U.S. will see spot shortages of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel develop rapidly if the outage persists.

President Joe Biden was briefed on the incident Saturday morning, according to the White House.

some stats for better understanding how big this is

3 million barrels
Colonial Pipeline, headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, "is the largest U.S. refined products pipeline system and can carry more than 3 million barrels of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel between the U.S. Gulf Coast and the New York Harbor area."

The Colonial pipeline consists of 4 main lines and a number of branch lines. Line 1 - A 40 inch line moving 1.5 million barrels/day of gasoline from Houston to Greensboro, NC Line 2 - A 36 inch line moving 1.2 million barrels/day of middle distillates (diesel, heating oil, jet fuel) from Houston to Greensboro, NC

this is the f.f the drill already took place.

tax records, bank account numbers, ssn's, stuff like that

most people pay their bills by check, so the towns have records

just for starters

plus whatever the local courts have

and then there's the water and sewer department

kinda like hacking into a country, only smaller

and less well protected

I remember seeing some special a few years back about how antiquated the nuke silos are. They still use like 8 inch floppy disks and are not connected to anything other than a phone voice line. For once our fucking retarded government did something right.

Because these fuck wits started setting everything up on SCADA and DCS years ago so they could run everything with PLCs and not have to pay 'worker bees' just the drones that fix them.

It's a fucking shitshow in industrial cybersecurity.

Re: Ransomware attack forces shutdown of largest fuel pipeline in the U.S
Look on the bright side, sales of electric vehicles should go up, way up, like this week, not in a year or three. Especially if there is no fuel to be had, because the computer controlled supply chain could be "taken out" at any moment.

The Biden supporters would remind us that, it's a climate emergency and we need to quit using fossil fuels, like yesterday. Besides, summer temperatures could get extreme. I'm certain there are some Prius owners that would agree that something needed to be done right away, and would likely support the shut-down.

The other thing to remember, this is the beginning of Spring planting season. If farmers can't get diesel, many of them won't be able to till the soil and plant. Except for the Amish, they run many things with horse-power.

How would he know? He was golfing most of the time. And not very well - he is well known for cheating the rules in just golf.

Mind you, I got caught up in the Americana speeches and the love for America. Then he pushed the warp speed death vaxx. That was my line. He is still pushing that shit to this day as are the Clintons and horseface clinton today.

Remember, the Trumps and the Clintons were great friends before 2016. They still are.
