Face recognition linked to ID is bullshit... Governments have pictures and ID for Driving Licenses and Passports, but linking pictures and faces is not reliable.

What is easy is for phone numbers (mainly) linked to phone IMEI and other unique electronic ID's linked to online account information "metadata" bank accounts and browsing habits etc.

Once an ID has been created, particularly to a phone number then the unique individual ID is created, and can soon be linked to similar computer activity.

Owning a smartphone is madness, a self funded tracking device that can easily be linked with everything and soon knows all about you.

It is illegal for anyone or any company or any governmental agency to view a person's text messages. And it will always continue to be illegal. That being said, the NSA has been illegally spying on all Americans and a large portion of the world's population for several decades. Every single person employed at the NSA should be doing major time in prison. Hopefully some day that will happen.
