Hmm lets see.
Saying the Taliban has been around longer than they really have vs lighting the middle east up on fire.
I'll take erroneous timeline for 1000 years Alex.

But Taliban didn't exist by then. the idea was to destabilize Afhanistan in order to get Soviet Union to help the government it had a defense pact with, so that Soviet Union would get its own Vietnam. But after the Soviets left the Afghani government still stood like three years, at least they didn't get their "Saigon moment". But now the USA got its Saigon 2.0 moment. Not to talk about that the terrorism sponsoring created al Qaida and, this might be controversial, led to 911 as a backlash.
