the plastic bags for the last 20+ years are under the new enviro-regulations regime

the old plastic bags of the 70s and earlier didn't decompose at all

in the 80s - 90s they transitioned the chemical bonding agents

the new bags don't decompose either

what they do is turn to plastic dust micro and nano particles that enter the water table and food chain

the old plastic bags didn't do this because of the chemical bonding agents used to stabilize the plastic

if you were to dig up an old closed dump from the 50s 60s 70s
all the plastic thrown away would still be there intact
and not harming the environment

under the new enviro-tardian laws
plastic products are not allowed to be mfg. with those chemicals that keep it stable and solid

and thus they breakdown to dust and do harm the environment
