You're going to need more than that. A few gas cans isn't going to hold you over. You need preparation in depth. Grid down could take years to recover. You cannot just turn it back on. Look at the fallout of COVID shutdowns and the supply chain. Think about electricity the same way but ALL of it. What would have happened if we stopped ALL TRUCKING?

Generator and fuel for the short term. Figure 2-4 weeks. that's a lot of fuel but prudent. Then, get on SanTan solar and get yourself a couple pallets of solar panels and associated equipment to build a solar system.

Last, storage. Get on Alibaba and order yourself some CALB LiFePo4 batteries on the cheap. These are good cells that will last 10+ years. Once you have everything you can immediately put it all to work saving you money on electricity and in the event of a long-term outage, rely on it for your power and save the generator for cloudy stretches where your batteries cannot tide you over.

No one said preps is cheap but if you're not preparing in depth, or at least planning to, it's a waste of time and money.
