It's all to curtail liquid fuel demand. Same with China lockdowns. The last covid scare, lumber shortages, airline problems, food shortages, supply line problems, pipeline hacks, etc... all of it is to curtail demand for energy. They can't print hydrocarbons, so demand HAS to drop for our current system to continue to function. Either that, or the price of energy will need to rise to the point that most people won't be able to afford it. I don't dole out numbers, but the concept is fairly simple. It costs more (money and energy) to extract a barrel of oil equivalent than it ever has in history in the vast majority of deposits. International bankers have been planning for this for decades.
