Anyone who has tasted dog and cat food will know that the stuff tastes like crap, there are plenty of other foods that is cheap, filling and tasty.

Stores also discount food that is close to the sell by date. Store managers often pass on food to distribution centres as well as leaving out left over food stocks for vagrants and the homeless, rather than destroying it by throwing in dumpsters.

Oatmeal is still very cheap and nutritious, I VERY OFTEN eat the stuff uncooked with milk, partly because I like it that way and partly because I cant be arsed to cook it, or put it in the microwave.

If people in the UK were that desperate, we would have images of skeletal and poverty porn on every news outlet. However, there will be plenty of old folk dying of hypothermia due to fear of large bills, but the media hardly gives a shit about that, because they are nearly always proud lower middle and working class (old) white people.

I agree! It makes no sense! Geez.... a 20 oz package of dried beans cooked in 10 cups of water lasts a week. I don't do it to save money, I just like bean soup. I add diced onions and carrots. Celery if I have it. It's delicious and easy to make.

Where I live there are like 20+ food pantries. You could go to one every day and have more food than you would even need for free

Yes, they can. I used to ship a 'magic mushroom' product to the US labeled 'pet dewormer' (I had fake labels made up the buyer could cover with the real label). There is NO overarching authority like the FDA over pet anything, thank goodness...or I wouldn't have shipped with success.

I've seen this first hand back in 1978 after the '77 oil crisis when I walked into a into a small junk shop looking for gas heaters to buy for tenants in the 1890's 12 apartment house I was the super of. The new Turkish owner said to me that he's shutting off the oil furnace and "renting the rooms like garage."

There it was....Cat food warming on a radiator with fork.

He had a heater and made that poor old man's day and got to fuck that Turk by withholding the rent from him and eventually getting everyone their heat for the coming winter.

I live in Cardiff and Trowbridge is just a few miles from me. I seriously doubt people are eating pet food when a tin of value baked beans costs 30p and is packed with protein. Sounds like total nonsense to me

Plenty of physical labor job openings that pay well because nobody wants to do them. We currently have a labor shortage.. which is good opportunity for those who want to make more money.

Pet food costs more than beans and rice... wtf is wrong with people. There's tons of free food at churches and pantries too.

If elderly folks don't have access then someone else is at fault.

Every time I open that can of friskies beef shreds for my cat, it always smells soo good. I have yet to muster the courage to taste it. But a little salt can always make things better, right?
